Real Simple Interview. Another one!

Once again, dear Natalie over at La Vie en Rose has provided some blogging material. Thanks!

1. Name one fashion item you would not be caught dead wearing.
I wouldn't even call these a "fashion item," and you don't see them too much anymore, since they seem to have been replaced by Crocs, but those Birkenstocks. Ugh. I remember when they were popular and I would look at peoples' feet and think, "those are the ugliest shoes I have ever seen." I don't care if they're "comfortable," I wouldn't be caught dead in them! Still feel that way, plus they remind me of the man we knew when I was little who weighed like 475 pounds and wore Birkenstocks to church. They were created for people whose feet are too, um, how do you say, round for regular shoes? And I think they're hideous.

2. What's the quality you like least in others?
I get annoyed when people take everything way too seriously. There is so much joy in life that can be missed because we get busy pitying ourselves, living too much in our own little world, and forgetting to enjoy the little things. Life's too short.

3. What's your motto?
This aren't really words to live by, but my mom used to say that sometimes you have to sacrifice comfort for beauty. This I believe. Something I often hear myself saying: "could be worse!" I like to think optimistically. :)

4. What's something that no one knows about you?
That while in college, pursuing an actually practical degree, I considered becoming a flight attendant after graduation. Mainly for the travel perks, of course, since the pay, hours, and reputation are all lousy. This was also before I met the boy who would marry me and save me from life as a working girl.

5. Favorite junk food?
Ding Dongs. Or Churros. Maybe ice cream.

6. Name one of the most difficult adjustments you have made in your life and one thing that made it doable.
I didn't expect to be the wife of a student for so long (8.5 years & 1 more to go). I thought that surely by the time I was 30, I would be settled down someplace and be sending my husband off to work every day. Turns out that's not the case (and I'm not 30 yet), but the thing that has made it doable is my incredibly brilliant husband, whose decisions I fully support, and the fact that we have been aboslutely tremendously and incalculably blessed.

7. Name one thing you are afraid of.
Home intrusion. Big time.

8. The big decision I'm currently wrestling with is . . . where to send Audrey for first grade.

I have the same fear, although it is much less in our new home which is great. I used to flip out at every noise in other places (especially my parents' in FarmTown which is funny!)

My husband and I were JUST talking about Birkenstocks! Where I grew up not only were Birkenstocks the "in" shoe, but people wore them year-round with SOCKS!!!!

Home intrusion- totally. That is so scary because home should be your "safe place."
I like ding dongs too, but I prefer hostess cupcakse... :)

Grampy and I feel the same way about home invasion. However we have a plan! Our secret room upstairs with the little door-remember it? That is if we had time to get there! Our street is busy one and very convenient!
Not to worry though at least not too much. Those gold shoes Uggh, how could anyone wear them!
Love you

if grammy wouldn't wear those shoes, then i wouldn't either. because she is one stylish lady (who has had her home intruded upon several times, i might add). speaking of those shoes, i was just reading my latest edition of elle magazine and they had a full page add for birkenstocks. in elle. like readers of elle are going to go out and buy birkenstocks. i am so sure.

YOU GUYS, birkenstocks seriously ARE comfortable. but I haven't worn them with socks since mmm 7th grade... and I just have the normal looking ones, not those hideous gold plated things! uh, but this coming from someone who also wears CROCS... and eats plenty of trail mix! ha! there goes my credibility... (I do admit they are ugly though.)

...maybe my problem is that I can't remember my mom ever saying you have to sacrifice comfort for beauty! she should have!! :)

and amen to being scared of bad guys coming into your house! what if they steal my ugly shoes?!

hey my dear-adorable-semi-granola:)-kristen-from-colorado, for the record, i wasn't implying that crocs are the new ugly sandals of the moment. i think they're actually kind of cute, especially those little mary jane ones. :)

I bought a pair of Birkenstock knockoffs about two years ago... I wore them about 15 years ago... and I hate to say it, but they are so comfortable. I don't wear them all the time, but occasionally I just want to feel comfortable. Like after I've sacrificed and have huge blisters on my heels.

I hope we can still be friends.

My husband and I were also just talking about Birkenstocks yesterday. He maintains that they are expensive and ugly, I think I might get a pair again. To embrace my granola side.
