Art

Corn Poppy by Kees van Dongen. When Audrey was 2 and saw this painting at the museum, she pointed out that Corn Poppy bears a striking resemblance to my sister, Julianne.

You know when you're at an art museum and from across the gallery you see something beautiful, an amazing piece of art on the wall, but there are a million people standing all around it so you can't get very close and then all of a sudden they all walk away and you're the only one left? And you're all alone, just you and the painting? So you go up closer, but not too close because that lady in the suit is watching you, and for just a moment you are struck by the spectacular beauty and unimaginable greatness displayed on that small piece of canvas that's over 200 hundred years old?

I did that today.

With Miles.

He loved it.

Miles in front of the Egyptian sarcophagus (he wanted to brag about it to Audrey & Parker).

Miles in front of one of my favorite pieces at the museum, the gold myrtle leaf wreath from Ancient Greece.

Other highlights of the day:
  • Attending the museum with my friend Pam and her little Lily and realizing that we have pretty much the exact same opinions on many, many topics.
  • Running into an old friend in the museum hallway and hearing some news about our old neighbors from when we lived in the city, all the while showing off my new, very smiley baby.
  • Oh, and the Subway shop that we went to for lunch had spinach as a veggie option. Yummy. My Subway doesn't have that.

I love the red hat and bright lipstick. Van Dongen is new to me - but you have inspired me to start looking.

and yes, corn poppy totally resembles julianne - so beautiful - she should use it as her bloggy photo.

My but corn poppy does remind one of Julianne. Think she shouild have a copy of this painting. How observant of Audrey at 2 years old. She has to be very intelligent like her Auntie Julianne!

In what museum is "Corn Poppy" located? Does anyone know if this "lady in the red hat" limited edition prints are available?
