The Mission

Here are some shots from the beautiful mission at San Juan Capistrano, about 4 miles from my parents' house. It was originally built in 1776 by Father Junipero Serra. It's much larger than I remembered from my 3rd grade field trip there. It was amazing, and a beautiful day!

Steph swishing down a beautiful corridor

An incredible bougainvillea tree attached to this lovely ruined archway

Audrey at a pretty fountain. She was completely entranced by all the butterflies in the gardens.

An old bell near the cathedral

Me and my girl with the ruined cathedral in the background. It was destroyed in an earthquake in the early 1800s.

Thios is susch a beautiful place. I love visiting there and just imagine living back then. Did you walk through or down one of the streets below the railroad tracks. Some of those houses are from the early 1800's and have bee restored. One has a little outdoor restraurant and very good food. There is alot to see in Capistrano including the antique store and art gallerys. Glad you had a good time. Love the pictures

i loooove the mission there! everytime i go down to the oc i tell mom we need to go, but i'm always there for like 5 days, so there's never enough time. i haven't been there in so long - how cool is it that we actually live close to something really old! we don't have to go to Europe to see sweet old stuff. :) love it.

oh and speaking of missions - have you ever seen the movie "the mission?" it's older, from the 80s, but it's way good - with robert de niro and jeremy irons. it's probably the only positive movie ever made about the catholic church. ha!
