R is for Ribbon
I love to collect ribbons. Cheap ribbon, fancy ribbon, embroidered ribbon, satin ribbon, I just love it. (although I don't really like wired ribbon. dunno why.) I remember loving it as a teenager, and even being crafty (nerdy) enough to stitch plaid ribbon onto my navy blue Eddie Bauer backpack (this was in my preppy phase). These days, now that I'm a bit too old to tie them in my hair (which I also did into my late teens), I don't really have that many occasions to use the ribbons in my collection, except for the occasional gift-wrapping session. I'll pop them in Audrey's hair every so often, but now that she wears a school uniform (with matching hair accessories, of course), her ribbon stash has been neglected. There's a lovely fabric shop in Houston that sells imported French ribbons (and grosgrain in every shade and every width you can dream of). It's one of those places you can only go when the kids are somewhere else and you feel like you have about twenty bucks to burn. Lately, I've been using my ribbons to display some of the earrings in my Etsy shop, and for the clipboards that are there as well. But it's gift-giving season, and although it's hard to part with my ribbons, I feel happy making a package look pretty and hope that the recipient of said package can reuse the ribbonious treasures. One day, when I feel like I have time and space to sew, I'll do some more ribbon-applying, but for now, I'm mostly just content to gaze at them in their Rubbermaid box every so often.
Do you love ribbon, too?

i also am a bit obsessed with ribbon. it is just so fanciful and girly. costco has been selling more non-wired cute ribbon lately and you can't beat the 50 yards for sevn dollars. if that picture is actually your collection, then i am very very jealous.
it's not.
although that is a brilliant storage idea. maybe when i have a sewing room one day . . .
I LOVE RIBBON!!!
Do tell where this ribbon shop is!?!?!?
I know someone who loves ribbon. In fact this person has been know to spend days in the shops in New York with ribbons to rafters street after street, and buttons too especially handmade shell buttons, bone too. And many stores over there have amazing silks and velvets and mohairs and cute ticking intricate damasks....
maybe this guy should knock off a little early and head over there.
i am such a sucker for grosgrain.
i love ribbon... i dont use it enough! that is a brilliant storage solution, and you have now inspired me to go through and ORGANIZE!!!
ok, what kind of camera did you get?
I.love.ribbon.a.lot.
i love ribbon too. now that i have a girl i have an extra excuse to stock up for whatever reason. i can't wait to put it in her hair.
I have enjoyed ribbon for making hair bows for the girls. I prefer wired ribbon for my bow-making endeavors. Love to get that full fluff!!
i love the picture. what a great idea. it would create so much inspiration just looking at it! i'm loving the encyclopedia thus far! sorry i haven't been commenting tons lately. life gets busy sometimes & i feel lucky just to get a chance to read. so know i'm out here, lurking, even if i don't say hi!
i like it, but tend to hoard it, waiting for the perfect place to use it. :) i wish i were better at just plain USING it. :)
