Encyclopedia: L

L is for London

It was the Queen's birthday, 1998. Check out the pomp!

I could talk forever about my favorite city in the world, but if you've been to London, you totally know what I'm talking about. I'm coming up on my tenth anniversary of studying there for Spring Term with BYU. Luckily for me, that was not my only trip to London. My parents had provided a way for that to be my fifth trip and so I wasted no time during my short stay there. I knew just what I wanted to see, was able to complete some of my assignments without actually going to the assigned places (Tower of London), but basically lived every day there to its fullest. I miss it so much and hope to go back sometime. I'd love to go with Neal and I know my kids would eat it up. We'll get there! In the meantime, I can look at pictures of myself there all those years ago and know that I thoroughly absorbed every waking moment.

This is me waiting for a bus on Bayswater Road. Across the street is Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. I took the tube a lot when I wanted to get somewhere quickly, but spent lots of time on the buses, so I'd really see the city. I loved those shoes.

While I was in London, I met some fantastic girls. Like this one, this one and this one.

L is also for Linen, Libraries, Laundry, Latin, La Madeleine, Lost, & Louisiana

I've only been there once, when I was 14; it would be fun to go back... to hear everyone's accent is almost enough of a reason! I couldn't get over being at church and hearing all of the "regular" church stuff done with a British accent; awesome.

London is also my favorite city! It just feels like home there. I simply can't say enough about how much I love it there and I too can hardly wait to get back. I also went with BYU, only I went with the theatre department. LOVE London theatre!

I love anyone who loves both London and La Madeleine. Both are yummy!

My totally unsolicited word of advice: I know there are Maclarens galore all over London, but learn from my mistakes and DO NOT assume that taking a child small enough to need a stroller will be easy and therefore make for a fun vacation. Schlepping a stroller up and down tube stairs all day is total hell.

Hope you get to both these darling places again soon!

I am hoping that it was me taking the picture of you on the Queen's birthday - it was that day we snuck off while the crowds finished the parade and we found Wedgewood China. What a happy memory and I am so glad I met you in L for London!

yes, dear angie, i think you may have taken both of those pictures. we were together a lot.

and i ended up registering for the exact wedgewood pattern i picked out that day. :)

Hey! I have a picture like that somewhere, only 4 years later. I happened to be in London on the Queen's birthday. One of her birthdays at least.
And I thought all the pomp was because I was in town.
