I took it upon myself to make a resolution for Neal and me this year. We're going to get on top of our finances and get organized. I tell myself this every year after tithing settlement is over, but this time, I mean it. When we were newlyweds, I was really good about keeping track of our expenses on Quicken, but that was so long ago, and Quicken is probably so old-fashioned. I'm coming to you for advice.
Do you use a money-tracking software program that you would recommend (Money, Quicken, etc.)?
We don't really have a concrete budget since our income is different week-to-week, but we need to keep better account of our accounts! I just wish I had a way of keeping track that was user-friendly. What do you use? Leave a brief comment, if you would, and help me out a little bit.

Good resolution. Quicken works for me! Hope everyone is better. Mom came down with it and has been out for a couple of days. Love you lots.
I use Quicken to balance our checking accounts and an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of our monthly budget.
Leslie- I've tried both Quiken and Money, and prefer Quicken. Once you get it hooked up to your bank and credit cards so everything downloads automatically, it is very nice. Lifehacker.com also has some good ideas for managing/tracking budgets.
I agree with elliot, Quicken is good for keeping track of your bank accounts and credit cards, and also your investments (ira, etc) cause you can download the info easily. For the budget, a simple excell spreadsheet is enough and you can compare it to your cash flow from Quicken each month end. I have been doing it for 7 years since I got married, and it's getting easier.. I hope it'll do wonder for you too.
Happy New Year!
We just keep track of everything in our checkbook. We right down every purchase there, even those made with the cc. We are never very good about sticking to our budget though. I don't think it's a realistic one, because we are over by about the same every month, but Loi doesn't want to believe me.
Meant to talk to you guys about this while you were here, remembering our conversation last January. Have you heard of Dave Ramsey? Great advice. Hmmm... I think I'm going to have to write you a long email about this... not that we are totally on top of all of this, but I think we're making progress!
ha! we're on the same page--i got Quicken for xmas. i have only just begun to figure it all out, though. i can let you know what i find.
Great resolution, I am totally with you, we were GREAT at this as newlyweds and the past 6 or 7 years, not so much. I am glad to take your family & friends advice on Quicken too!
We are very old fashioned, Microsoft Excel. Each month has a different spreadsheet that my husband programed to carry over. Along the bottom are tabs for every month. It has worked great for us!
