In our house, when children are sick (like they have been for going on 3.5 weeks now), nighttime is a little game of run-around. It's rare that any given person in the family will wake up in the same bed in which they went to sleep. For example, the other night, after we put all the kids to bed in their own beds, Parker came out and said the classic, "Mama, I feel yucky. Like I might throw up," which he proceeded to do, and also proceeded to have a high fever all night long. I don't feel good about putting a sick child in a room all alone, so Parker ended up sleeping with Neal in the master bedroom. About 15 minutes later, Miles woke up crying, and I discovered that he also had a fever. After a dose of ibuprofen and a little Mama juice, he wouldn't go back to sleep in his crib, so he and I ended up "sleeping" in the guest room. I use the term "sleeping" loosely, as none of the four of us really got a whole lot of sleep that night. Or last night, since the boys are still sick and we had the same arrangement.
Last week, when Audrey was sick, Neal stayed with her in the guest room (thank goodness for the guest room), while I spent one horrible night with Miles, whose top tooth is just about popped through. But not yet. For at least one desperate hour that night,
I was in the crib.
And so goes the little game of musical beds that we play in our house when the kids are sick.
How do you manage it?

Thank goodness for the guest room (/craftroom/office), huh? It's the same thing around here. Sick kiddos need all the loves they can get. I hate sleeping by myself when I'm sick, but I was by myself in the guest bed last night while Natalie slept with Dave... and only you could get in the crib too, Les! That's a good one!
YOU were in the crib? that is just craziness. you guys have 10 days to be all better.
1. I love the term 'Mama Juice.' I can't wait to use it. 2. You are an amazing mother. I would not be able to get myself into a crib to save my life. I would opt for the floor or air mattress. Good work, Team H*!
i even surprised myself by getting in the crib with miles. but i was sick of sleeping in the glider, and he wanted to hug. it was the only way. :)
Goodness- that is one memory I have of sick kids. "Musical beds". At lest you get "some" rest???? Good thing they will get well. You have 11 days!!!
Love and many hugs

That is a funny image - a grown woman snuggled up in a crib! I love it! But us too - when sick kids are involved, anything goes. Anything to help, right! I really hope you guys get better soon.
i love that you were in the crib - the few times i've done it i feel so silly - but you are right about a baby needing a hug - right where they are sometimes :)
i love that you wre in the crib too!!! what a perfect image of motherhood!!! anything to get a wink of sleep when the kiddos are sick!
we have pretty much the same arrangement when ours are sick... UNLESS they are puking - i just send them back to their own bed with a big bowl and say "dont miss!" i am not quite as sweet as you are. but i do go running up the stairs when i hear them puking to help them clean it! ;)
I love the image of you in the crib! When the kiddos are sick I guess we do whatever they need! You are a great mom!
I agree... I'm not that nice. We use a policy of "divide and conquer." Whoever is sick has to sleep on the mattress in Oliver's room while he sleeps in a porta-crib downstairs (unless he is sick). Then I can easily check on them during the night. But Tyler often gets in the crib with Oliver (well... now one of the sides is down so it is a kinda toddler bed) when he gets home from work after Oliver is asleep. It's so cute to see them in there snuggling... I'm always amazed that Tyler can fit!
i can totally see you in that crib, making it work for your little man. hugs till all is well again - plus chocolate dessert on sunday - that's gotta help! :D
I will have to remember that me getting in the crib is an option in the future. I never even considered it yet. but then again, my baby isn't teething and hasn't had one of those nights yet.
YOU GUYS NEED TO GET BETTER! AND YOU GET THE GOLDEN-STAR MOMMY AWARD.
Did you ever see Terms of Endearment? You getting in the crib reminds me of the mom in the movie, and how see kept trying to climb in with her baby. Ha ha, very funny.
