So remember how I finally bought that Twilight book because every single person I know, through blogs and in real life (I have a real life?) gushes about it? Well, I read it. And no, I didn't read it in one sitting. It took me about four days. So now I'm just kind of confused as to why I didn't really like it that much when every other person loved it so. Are you going to stop reading my blog because I'm not even all that interested in reading the second book? I'm sorry. I tried! I would call it, in fact, I did call it on the phone to Steph, "fun." It was a "fun" read, which, I admit, you need every once in a while. But, enh (picture me tilting my hand back and forth like the so-so hand gesture).
Call me a book snob or whatever, but this book, below, is what I call a good book:
Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy. It's also a young adult novel. I actually just picked it up at the bookstore the other day when I was in the kids' section. It had two of those shiny silver award medallions on the cover, so I bought it. LOVED it. It's a little LM Montgomery, a little Harper Lee, a few laughs, and a few tears.

Ditto. I enjoyed feeling HS crush-feelings again, which she captured really well, but found the rest of the book to be a bit boring and almost amateur. But if that's your thing, great. I prefer a little more plot and writing style myself. Maybe I'll read the other two. Probably not.
I haven't read the Twilight book yet... maybe if I see it at the library I will, once the furor dies down.
I have read so many books from the kids department lately, because I feel the need to read them (or at least most of them) before Andrew does, to make sure there isn't anything inappropriate.
It is an exercise of frustration, because I have limited reading time now that Sophie won't let me read while she nurses (she grabs the book). My choice is sew at night, or read. :-(
Hi Leslie!
I love checking out your blog. I had to chime in here. I got the Twilight book since it seems like everyone I know is reading it as well. I felt the SAME exact way. I really have no interest in reading the second one and I kept thinking something was wrong with me, too! Good to know there's someone else that felt the same way.
Your kids are darling...
Whitney
It's true, it's not the best book ever. The plot isn't terribly complicated. I found it pretty predictable. The characters could have been developed a little more. There's even a GLARING typo near the end of the book, which bugs me.
However.
I love it. Probably just because I love *him*. ::sigh:: It's a nasty trick Mrs. Meyer played.
I can't wait for more. :)
You probably won't like the second one very much.
I have heard so much about it- and honestly have no interest. I do have a friend who also felt the same way you did. It sounds like a fluffy book. (But who am I to judge?)
guy, les, you're such a snob. just kidding. i really have no interest in reading twilight. or harry potter. call me crazy. i like adult novels. wait, that sounds icky. not "adult", just grown up.
i never read harry potter and actually started the first book forced on me by a friend and couldn't get through the first chapter (i told her i read it so she wouldn't stangle me. she's really tall).
i started twilight i think last week and i am really enjoying it. it is the perfect distraction at this point in my life and i DO love the high school crush feelings again.
BUT i have also been interested in the vampire aspect. and she doesn't make them seem too scary.(although meds i'm on now give me very vivid dreams and i was afraid i would have a scary one. i haven't yet so lets hope it stays that way.)
AND i miss the pacific northwest so much and she paints the pictures of the forests and sky so perfectly, it takes me back to my childhood on almost every page.
i love it but also haven't read it in one sitting. i can tear myself away. and i don't, as a rule for my entire life and don't intend to break, purchase hard back books. so if i end up wanting to read the next books, they will have to be paperback.
sorry that got so long. to sum up, you are normal and i still like your blog.
but not as much as washington state. my childhood is calling to me :)
i read twilight, and thought it was a fun, quick, easy read. i read the 2nd book and was dissapointed (it was depressing and just full of FEELINGS...) BORING!
but, i had already invested the time, so i read the third (refer to my blog
about it)
BLAHHH didnt like it. so frustrating, and lame. i dont do feelings, and it really had no plot. so you arent missing out on anything. between the 1st and the end of the 3rd book, nothing truly important happens!!
I liked it and read it quickly, but I pretty much do that with every book and I wasn't expecting great literature. And, no, you won't like the second book.
I am going to check out Lizzie Bright, though. I love some young adult lit.
I, like you dear friend, felt a little left-out since I was about the second to the last person on the planet who hasn't read the books - I haven't given in and doubt I will. I just don't get it - vampires? really?! Your opinion holds much weight, so that combined with the fact that I rarely do the mass-furvor thing, I may never read them..then again, I'm also pretty anti-Harry Potter, too. -GASP!- just give me my Cold Mountain and I'm pleased as punch.
I'm currently listening to Twilight on CD. So far it is interesting. I like to listen to (instead of read) books like this because I can indulge myself by reading a "fluff" book but not waste time doing it. Laundry is so boring without my book on tape addiction.
I put your recommendation on hold at the library. I'm excited to read it - I love L.M.Montgomery!
I LOVED Twlight! I looked it up on Amazon after you blogged about it and felt the "enh (picture me tilting my hand back and forth like the so-so hand gesture)." But then Elizabeth had it when she was down at my mom's and I snagged it and couldn't put it down. I didn't like #2 AS much but it was still good. But I did stay up 'till 4 in the morning reading it! I am looking forward to getting my hands on i in the next couple of days. Thanks Cleo!!
I know what you mean... it was a fun read though! I'm with Elizabeth, the crush and all that. So yummy!
Good to hear the comments about the second book, I've been curious. I think the idea of listening to it while doing laundry is FABULOUS! Less time invested just in case it isn't as delicious as the first!
Yah, it isn't the best written book ever, but like you said, it is fun! A fun fluffy book every now and then is good for MY soul! I loved all three books and am excited about the fourth one!
I also felt the pressure. I bought it. I haven't read it yet. Hummm....
