Puttin' it to the people . . .

Ok, Neal and I really need some help here. As you may know, I am pregnant, due in 10-12 weeks, and we don't know the gender of the baby. It's been really fun wondering, polling the kids, and discussing the dreams we've had about what the baby might be. So far, I've had 3 boy dreams and one girl dream. Neal's had one boy dream. Not that that means anything, but hey, you never know! Everything is going along very well, better than my other two pregnancies, so we're feeling very blessed and happy.

Here's the problem: we have no idea what we're naming this kid! I know, we still have a little while, but I don't see it getting any easier, so I've decided to put it to a vote. There are plenty of names that I like, which Neal doesn't, and a handful he suggested that I don't like. Below are the lists of prospective names upon which we both agree, but from among which we can't decide.

Boy:

Harrison Fielding Horn (Harris and Fielding are both family names)

Miles Jefferson Horn (Myles is a family name on the Parker side, Jefferson on the Horn side)

others we like: Adam, Matthew, Elliott

Girl:

Lily Genevieve Horn (Genevieve, Neal's grandmother's name)

Evangeline Rose Horn (E. as in the Longfellow poem, Neal's always liked it, Rose, from our Scottish clan name) nicknames: Evie, Eva

Charlotte Rose Horn (Charlotte, Neal's sister)

others we like: Cleo

Feel free to suggest any other combinations of the above names. We're stuck, and getting tired of thinking about it! If you don't usually comment, please do! Just "register" as anonymous and sign your name, so we know what you think. We really need opinions, honest ones, not just biased ones. For example, if your name is listed above, ahem, don't just vote for that one because you think it would be fun to have a namesake. :) I'm going to leave this post up for a while to get the maximum number of opinions. Thanks!!

Leslie--I love naming babies, so thanks for asking my opinion!

Boy: Miles. It's on my short list, too. Love it love it love it. I like Harrison also...but can you get with "Harry Horn"? (Seems like these long names always get shortened, no matter how hard the parents try to prevent it!) Actually, I think Harry Horn is kind of cool. Anyway...

Girl: Genevieve as the first name, please! Genevieve Horn is the most fabulous name ever, using Eve/Evie for short. Also a fan of Charlotte.

Don't forget to visit the two best baby naming sites: www.babynamewizard/namevoyager and ssa.gov/OACT/babynames

So excited for you guys! #3...woo-hoo!

I like Miles, and Lilly... and Charlotte was an option for Ali (Right behind Natalie, which Ali also could have been short for(o;...but David liked Allison. We didn't know that was her name until we saw her...

I am voting for harrison as the boy name, so that both of your boys will have last names for first names... please just promise you won't let him be called harry!
For a girl name, my personal preference is Sophie... :-) Actually, I agree with your friend Kelly that you should name her Genevieve (or however that is spelled) for her first name... very pretty with Rose as middle?)

I think if your last name is a noun, you should avoid first names that are adjectives (i.e. Harry Horn, French Horn, etc.). I must say I'm partial to Elliott, but Miles Jefferson Horn takes the cake. I have always like the name Miles.

All of your girl names are perfect, you can't go wrong with any of them. I think Genevieve as a first name is a awesome, especially since it's a family name--plus you can join us in the whole French naming thing. I also like Evangeline, although is it e-van-ja-line or e-van-ja-leen? Does it depend on the state where you live?

Cleo Rose Horn

Miles Jefferson Horn

Hurray for babies!

yay! keep the comments coming! evangeline would end in a lynn sound. that's how they say it in Louisiana, where Evangeline Parish and the famous Evangeline Oak are located.

I love Lily and if I were to have a girl that is what I would have named her. But I didn't have a girl!Miles is a great name for a boy and we don't have any other Miles. Myles Jefferson Horn has a good sound to it and is a great door name!

i like miles jefferson for a boy. fielding is very cool, but i am afraid harry horn might win out over harrison someday.

i like lily genevieve for a girl. but everyone else might be right about going with genevieve as the first name. it is so pretty and unique, and i am afraid lily is a tad bit more common.

good luck! i think naming babies is the hardest thing ever.

I vote Miles for a boy and Lily for a girl - fabulous names and I can't wait to see and hold the little one - hurrah for Texas born babies!

ya - i had a dream last night that i was the fourth wife of some chinese guy similar to the movie raise the red lantern and i was appalled that he thought that men and women were not equal. . .so maybe dreams don't really mean anything! ha!

anyway,i think i agree 100% with elliott's comment - seriously. i really love both miles and elliott as boy names - different but still normal. and i really like all your girl names, but i'm partial (like everyone else) to lily genevieve - though evangeline rose is beautiful as well, and so is charlotte! alright, i'm no help - sorry les, i think they are all winners.

I like Harrison and as an aunt to a Harrison, no one ever calls him Harry (at least so far in his almost 6 years). That said, I like Miles Jefferson Horn. Audrey, Parker & Miles. CUTE!

For the girls, Lily Genevieve Horn, although I also like Charlotte. Audrey, Parker, & Lily. Or Audrey, Parker & Charlotte.

Oh, I can't wait to see what it is!

boy: harrison fielding sounds great! (and try to call him harris for short, not harry, just like everyone says)

girl: I like all the choices except Cleo. What about Cloe? we have a Lily in sunbeams who is really cute and evangeline and charlotte are both nice. genevieve as a first name would also be cool...

ANYWAY, GOOD NAMES, GOOD LUCK IN THE LAST 10-12 WEEKS! love, kristen

i polled my roommates leslie - lindsay thinks that audrey, parker, and harrison sounds like a company. and she's afraid of harry because of the harry potter crazy - she thinks it would be funny if you named him peter because then you'd have peter parker - which parker would love. for girls she has a neice named lily, isn't a huge fan of genevieve because it's the name of the dog in madeline, but she's crazy. then both lindsay and brittany agree that evangeline sounds too much like "evangelical." but they like all the other names. and brittany prefers adam, matthew, and elliott to harrison and miles. she thinks of harrison ford.

anyway, i doubt you care - but i thought i'd give you some more objective opinions!

I like Miles Jefferson Horn and Lily Genevieve Horn. Just the opinion of a complete stranger. Good luck with your pregnancy and the naming!

Gosh, I thought I knew my favorites until I started reading the comments. I would probably stay away from Cleo. It just reminds me of the goldfish. I love Harrison Fielding for a boy, or your could switch it to Fielding Harrison and not have to worry about about the "Harry" possibility. (I had never thought about our last name being a noun!) I absolutely love Lily Genevieve and I like the thought of calling her Evie for short (or Genna). Of course I also love Charlotte Rose, because Charlotte is one of my favorite people ever!

Love,
Georgia

I do like Miles Jefferson Horn - it has a stately ring to it and it looks really cool in print. I'd vote for him for President of The United States.
If the blessing is a little girl I like the following names -
Jessica Rose Horn
Lauren Anne Horn
Carly Jo Horn
&
Gabriella Louise Horn

Okay... first of all, let me just guess that you are going to have a girl. I don't know why I have that feeling. Anyway I would LOVE it if you named it Charlotte, of course because I won't be naming a baby Charlotte and I think I'm done with girls also. Love Lily also, that's what Tyler calls me so it could be named after me either way =)

For boy I love Harrison. Neal, remember Harris Brooks? Doesn't have to be a "Harry." We were thinking of that name also so I'll be jealous if you get it =)

So glad this pregnancy is going so well, and also, I think when you look into it's little face, you'll know the name!

I'm glad you could settle on a boy's name! It is a bit stressful isn't it? I love Charlotte for a girl. It is cute for when she is a baby and sweet little girl but also beautiful for when she is a woman. It was one we liked if David had been a girl.

I've been waiting to comment until my new name book came in the mail. Delivery was soooo slow. I love thinking about baby names and reading name books. Anyway . . .
I like all of your boy names, but I think I like Harrison (#213 in popularity says my book) most. My new book says that it is a "timeless gentleman's name." Miles (#231), it says, is "strong, smooth, and unflappable."
For a girl name, I think Charlotte (#183) is my favorite. The book says it is a high status name that has warmth and dignity. I just think it's a nice classic name that goes well with Audrey. Lily (#69) is a nice name that is really popular around here. It also sounds good with Audrey and Parker.
I'm sure you'll choose a great name! Good luck with naming and everything else!
